Matter of the Mind

With my work, I constantly return to the idea of memory. The process of losing memories and how we can only recall certain details has always interested me. The media I tend to work with is printmaking, such as silkscreening.

For someone that has a clear view of how I want something to look, printmaking provides security that a print will end up the way I intend. Like memory, prints remain sharp with constant care. Without care, prints fade and lose detail. The further a memory becomes, the more details we lose.

I enjoy the balance of clarity and uncertainty printmaking and your memory can bring. The ink leaves a mark as a result of my handling. Like memory it is a trace of the event or a reference to how a print was made. Too much pressure and the print becomes too dense. Too little pressure and the print losses its structure. If successful, the viewer will see the changes from image to image, perhaps even question what has been altered, repeated or even lost.
